Barkley L. Hendricks (1945–2017) war ursprünglich Ende der 1960er Jahre Student der Landschaftsmalerei an der Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, wo er auch seine Liebe zur Fotografie entdeckte. Doch erst in den 1980er Jahren entschied er sich, von den großen figurativen Gemälden, die zu seinem Markenzeichen geworden waren, zugunsten der Landschaftsmalerei im Freien abzuweichen. In den nächsten zwei Jahrzehnten widmete er sich während seiner Ferien auf Jamaika dem Malen von Ansichten des Landes in ovalen, kreisförmigen und halbmondförmigen Formen. Barkley L. Hendricks

Barkley L. Hendricks (1945-2017) was a highly acclaimed American artist known for his captivating portraits that celebrated the beauty, dignity, and individuality of Black people.
