Edward Hopper meticulously crafted his artworks around light. His pieces often exhibit a tranquil, solitary atmosphere, warmed by the sun's rays: “I like long shadows and early and late sunlight. I am . . . trying to paint sunlight without eliminating the form under it, if I can.” This collection highlights the mesmerizing light that so intrigued the artist, illuminating both rural and urban scenes of New England. Hopper spent many summers in the region during his highly productive career. He was born and raised in Nyack, New York and received painting training from the New York School of Art, while also wintering in Greenwich Village. This bicoastal lifestyle resulted in a wealth of images, including both coastal and metropolitan perspectives. This calendar features twelve of Hopper’s stunning works, representing his dual residency.

About the Artist, Edward Hopper

Edward Hopper (July 22, 1882—May 15, 1967) was an American painter whose realistic depictions of everyday urban scenes shock the viewer into recognition of the strangeness of familiar surroundings. He strongly influenced the Pop Art and New Realist painters of the 1960s and 1970s, as well as cinema, notably the films directed by Alfred Hitchcock (including Psycho, and Rope). Hopper was a minor-key artist, creating subdued drama out of commonplace subjects "layered with a poetic meaning", inviting narrative interpretations, often unintended. He was praised for "complete verity" in the America he portrayed.
