About the Artist

Ennion

Ennion was an ancient Greek glassblower, active in the first century C.E. from the city of Sidon, in what is now Lebanon. He is famous for being the first known maker of decorated mold-blown glass, and for the high quality of his artwork. His works in glass were traded throughout the Mediterranean, and they were in high demand among wealthy Romans. Only a few relatively intact specimens survive, including the Chrysler's "Ennion" bowl.
