Plays In Mud Pottery
Kelsey Schissel is a ceramic artist based in Asheville, North Carolina, crafting functional pottery that is as beautiful to use as it is to admire. Growing up surrounded by handmade objects, her passion for pottery was sparked at a craft show when she was captivated by master potters Glen and Lula Bolick throwing clay on a kick wheel. That moment ignited a lifelong pursuit of ceramics. Using clay sourced from the Village Potters in RAD, she throws her pieces on the wheel and decorates them with hand-designed stamps, meticulously applying each one before bisque firing, glazing, and firing again. Some of her signature collection pieces take months to complete, each one uniquely crafted with care. In addition to creating her sought-after pottery—like her best-selling wine glasses—she shares her passion by teaching pottery classes, helping others discover the joy of working with clay.
