This collection of survivor stories celebrates and inspires, paired with nourishing recipes. Learn about brave partisans who fought in the forests, hidden children who found comfort from strangers, and those who endured unspeakable imprisonment. For survivors of the Holocaust, food served as a bridge between their pre-war lives and the homes they built afterwards. Their kitchens were filled with familiar smells of dishes like chicken soup and brisket, while they adopted new, delicious recipes like arroz con pollo and gnocchi. These are the recipes they want to share with you. Esteemed culinary figures such as Michael Solomonov, Jonathan Waxman, and Ina Garten contribute their own recipes as a tribute to the incredible survivor community. Author June Hersh offers a taste of history and a life-affirming message that honors the enduring legacy of Holocaust survivors.
