Keith Haring emerged as a standout artist of the 1980s, drawing inspiration from graffiti tags that adorned the city’s subway cars. He started creating bold white chalk drawings on the black paper that covered empty advertising spaces, turning the urban landscape into his canvas.

Starting in 1980, Haring showcased his work in galleries and museums globally, while still creating public art projects like murals, sculptures, and paintings to support hospitals, kids in need, and community health groups.

Volume 292 is Blackwing's tribute to Keith Haring. Each notebook features Haring’s iconic smiling heart illustration on its front and back cover and 160 pages of 100GSM blank paper.

About the Artist

Keith Haring

Keith Haring (1958 - 1990) was a renowned 20th century American artist whose vibrant and dynamic artwork became a symbol of the New York City art scene in the 1980s. Born on May 4, 1958, in Reading, Pennsylvania, Haring's passion for art emerged at a young age. He gained recognition for his unique style characterized by bold lines, bright colors, and simplified figures.

Haring's artwork transcended the boundaries of traditional art spaces, as he took to the streets of New York City, using public spaces as his canvas. His iconic pop art-inspired imagery, often featuring figures in motion and symbolic elements, conveyed powerful messages of love, unity, and social activism. Through his distinctive visual language, Haring aimed to make art accessible to all, breaking down barriers between high art and popular culture.

About the Brand

Blackwing

Our story starts with a pencil, but it doesn’t end there. We're a team of writers, artists, musicians, designers, and DIYers who think the world is a little bit better when you slow down.

We believe that thoughtful interaction with the world around us leads to a healthier life. That interaction may come from scribbling a thought in your journal, flipping through the dusty pages of a familiar book, or listening to the warm tone of your favorite record. No matter what form it takes, there's something profoundly human about it that's in our DNA.

A portion of the sales from all Blackwing products benefit the Blackwing Foundation, which funds and develops arts and music education at the K-12 level.

Your purchase helps provide, among other things, the instruction, learning environment, and instruments children need to participate in the Little Kids’ Rock Modern Band Program.

The Modern Band Program isn't your traditional music course. Instead of learning how to read music and play in an orchestral band, Modern Band puts guitars, drums, and keyboards into students' hands and teaches them how to play songs they've heard in their day-to-day lives.
