Banksy's Lost Works

Banksy's success has made him a household name, yet he famously shies away from the limelight, preferring to remain anonymous. He is recognized as one of the greatest living artists by many, while others view him as a political provocateur with a rebellious streak. His guerrilla art first appeared on the streets of Bristol's Barton Hill over two decades ago, and has since caused both scandal and enlightenment in the art world. However, this book delves into the pieces that are no longer visible - those removed by authorities or hidden away in private collections. These elusive works, just like their creator, are now brought back for the public to see and appreciate. The Lost Works of Banksy features a collection of seven paintings on partially destroyed buildings in Kyiv, Ukraine, one of which was taken off the wall by locals. It also includes Valentine's Day Mascara in Margate, now restored and displayed in Dreamland after meddling by Thanet District Council, and the disappearing rats, an early symbol of the artist routinely painted over by councils when the name Banksy was more synonymous with “vandal” than “artist.”
