    Über den Künstler

    August Macke

August Macke (1887–1914) was a German Expressionist painter known for his bright colors and joyful depictions of everyday life. Born in Meschede, Germany, Macke studied art in Düsseldorf and became part of a group of artists who wanted to express emotion through color and form rather than strict realism. He was a key member of Der Blaue Reiter (“The Blue Rider”), an influential circle of painters that included Wassily Kandinsky and Franz Marc.

Macke’s paintings often show people walking, shopping, or enjoying leisure time, captured in shimmering blocks of color that reflect his love of light and harmony. His work was deeply influenced by modern art movements in Paris, including Fauvism and Cubism, yet it always retained a sense of warmth and humanity. Tragically, Macke’s promising career was cut short when he was killed in World War I at only 27 years old. Despite his brief life, his art continues to shine with optimism, offering a vision of beauty and peace amid a rapidly changing world.
