Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh struggled with mental health and never sold a painting during his lifetime. And yet, today his work is beloved among millions of people. One of his favorite subjects to paint were Sunflowers—a symbol of hope. Of course, van Gogh isn't the only artist associated with Sunflowers, and the Chrysler's collection has several examples.
Our Sunflower hanging decoration is completely handmade. It is lovingly rendered in yellow satin and embellished with embroidery, sequins, beads and bronze thread.

About the Artist, Vincent van Gogh
About the Artist, Vincent van Gogh
Vincent van Gogh (born March 30, 1853, Zundert, Netherlands—died July 29, 1890, Auvers-sur-Oise, near Paris, France) was a Dutch post-impressionist painter who posthumously became one of the most famous and influential figures in the history of Western art.
In a decade, he created about 2,100 artworks, including around 860 oil paintings, most of which date from the last two years of his life. They include landscapes, still lifes, portraits and self-portraits, and are characterized by bold colors and dramatic, impulsive and expressive brushwork that contributed to the foundations of modern art. He was not commercially successful, and his death at 37 came after years of mental illness, depression and poverty.
About St. Nicolas
About St. Nicolas
For over 25 years St. Nicolas has worked with a small charity in Thailand that helps disadvantaged rural women find work in their community, rather than being forced to leave home to work in a factory. Today, some 200 skilled women work at home sewing the decorations, and many of them have been doing so for more than 10 years. All of the historical figure decorations are made in this way as well as numerous other designs.
St. Nicolas is proud to be a member of BAFTS (British Association of Fair Trade Suppliers) and supports the 10 Principles of Fair Trade, as set out by the World Fair Trade Organization.
