This set of six Domed Magnets capture the shimmering beauty and nuance of Louis C. Tiffany's (1848-1933) leaded glass lampshades, a highlight of the Chrysler Museum of Art's glass collection.

Tiffany and his designers created a revolutionary design aesthetic that brought the beauty of the natural world into the home. The remarkable story of designer Clara Driscoll (1861-1944), manager of the women who selected and cut glass at Tiffany Studios, was revealed in New-York Historical's groundbreaking exhibition, A New Light on Tiffany. This set of magnets (clockwise from top left) features details of six lampshades from the Historical's collection; some of which were designed by Clara Driscoll and are similar to examples found in the Chrysler's collection: Clematis Hanging Shade, Magnolia Shade, Daffodil Hanging Shade, Cyclamen Shade, Poinsettia Shade, Dogwood Shade.

    About the Designer

    Louis Comfort Tiffany

Louis Comfort Tiffany was a leading figure in American design during the Gilded Age, best known for his work in stained glass. The son of jewelry magnate Charles Lewis Tiffany, he brought a distinct artistic vision to interior decoration, glassmaking, and the decorative arts. In 1885, he founded Tiffany Studios in New York City, where he assembled a talented team of designers and craftspeople. Among them was Clara Driscoll, who supervised the Women's Glass Cutting Department and played a major role in designing the studio’s celebrated lamps and glass objects. While Tiffany’s name became synonymous with the style, many of the studio’s most iconic works were the result of close collaboration between gifted artisans whose skill and creativity helped define the American Art Nouveau movement.
