Louis Comfort Tiffany

About the Designer

Louis Comfort Tiffany

Louis Comfort Tiffany was a leading figure in American design during the Gilded Age, best known for his work in stained glass. The son of jewelry magnate Charles Lewis Tiffany, he brought a distinct artistic vision to interior decoration, glassmaking, and the decorative arts. In 1885, he founded Tiffany Studios in New York City, where he assembled a talented team of designers and craftspeople. Among them was Clara Driscoll, who supervised the Women's Glass Cutting Department and played a major role in designing the studio’s celebrated lamps and glass objects. While Tiffany’s name became synonymous with the style, many of the studio’s most iconic works were the result of close collaboration between gifted artisans whose skill and creativity helped define the American Art Nouveau movement.
