About the Artist

René Magritte

René François Ghislain Magritte (1898 – 1967) was a Belgian surrealist artist, who became well known for creating a number of witty and thought-provoking images. Often depicting ordinary objects in an unusual context, his work is known for challenging observers' preconditioned perceptions of reality. His imagery has influenced pop art, minimalist art, and conceptual art.

About the Maker

Tissage Moutet

Celebrating 150 years of craftsmanship, and passion for weaving, Tissage Moutet has been weaving threads, traditions, and stories since 1874 in the South-west of France. The family-owned business—now led by its fifth-generation, Benjamin Moutet (great-great-grandson of the founder, Jean-Baptiste Moutet) combines tradition with modernity: working with a team of in-house designers, Tissage Moutet creates complex patterns woven on jacquard looms.

Tissage Moutet has been awarded two distinctions in France: the geographical guarantee “Indication Géographique Linge basque" which provides assurance that a product's manufacture is local and respectful of traditions, and “Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant” which is a mark of recognition from the state which distinguishes French companies who combine tradition and modern innovation.
