Louis C. Tiffany and his talented artisans masterfully captured the exquisite intricacies of the natural world through their groundbreaking leaded glass lampshades. Within this context, the bookmark itself is a testament to the ingenuity of Tiffany designer Clara Driscoll, who drew inspiration from a remarkable clematis lampshade housed in the esteemed collection of the New York Historical Society. Driscoll's visionary craftsmanship serves as an enduring source of inspiration, embodying the artistic brilliance and meticulous attention to detail that defined Tiffany's iconic creations. The bookmark stands as a tribute to this legacy of artistic excellence, inviting us to appreciate the beauty and craftsmanship that continue to shape our perception of Tiffany's extraordinary artistry.

Louis Comfort Tiffany

About the Artist

Louis Comfort Tiffany

Louis Comfort Tiffany was an American artist and designer who worked in the decorative arts. Throughout his career he forged a unique style that combined excellent craftsmanship with a love of nature forms and brilliant color. Though he worked with a multitude of mediums, he is best known for his work in stained glass. This beautiful design pairs Tiffany’s most famous medium with his favorite motif: the peacock. Peacock feathers featured countless times in both his personal life and his professional career. Renowned for their beauty, peacocks have both religious and secular appeal, making them the ideal design motif for Tiffany’s ecclesiastical commissions.
