Claude Monet, known as the "Prince of the Impressionists," changed the way people thought about painting. Unlike artists before him, Monet didn't just try to show what things looked like in real life. He wanted to capture how we see things. By painting outdoors and using quick brushstrokes, he studied how light affected colors, patterns, and shapes and how our eyes perceive those images.
Monet was also fascinated by the fleeting nature of what we see. In his famous water lily series and other paintings of trees, haystacks, and the Rouen cathedral, he painted the same subjects in different seasons, weather conditions, and times of day. He wanted to show how our visual surroundings are always changing.
This book is an essential introduction to an artist who made us think about the purpose of art and the passing of time. Monet's works have left a lasting impact on the history of art.
