The Progress Pride flag was designed by Daniel Quasar as a reboot of the Pride flag, which was originally designed in 1978 by artist Gilbert Baker. (One of Baker's Rainbow Flags is in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art.) This version adds new colors representing trans and marginalized communities on the left edge in an arrow shape indicating forward progress, while the traditional colors of the Pride rainbow remain in the main part of the design.

The Progress Initiative

What this initiative aims to do is provide funding to organizations and charities that directly affect the lives of trans people of color, and some of the most marginalized individuals within the community. When a “Progress Initiative” product is sold within the store, a portion of the profits will go towards these donations.

According to the creators, the colors are meant to represent the following:

White, Light Pink, and Light Blue represent members of the Trans community.
Brown and Black represent people of color, as well as those living with HIV/AIDS, and those no longer living.
Red represents life.
Orange represents healing.
Yellow represents sunlight.
Green represents nature.
Blue represents harmony and peace.
Violet represents spirit.

Flags For Good

Michael and Cassie Green started Flags for Good in 2020 out of a lifelong obsession with flags (seriously: see Michael's TED talk about them), quarantine boredom, and societal rage.

Flags For Good supports a relevant world-changing organization for every one of their flags.
