Regular price $45.00 $0.00 Unit price per

For a very limited time, you can purchase one of the "glass memento" sets created at the Perry Glass Studio by Atelier NL artist Nadine Sterk using local sand from Fort Monroe in Hampton. Each set consists of a small porcelain crucible into which a sample of local sand has been melted to form glass. (These same crucibles can be seen on view in the exhibition, To See A World In A Grain of Sand at the Chrysler Museum.) The kit also includes a glass vial of the same local sand, sealed and numbered by Atelier NL.

For decorative use only; not intended for food.

Limited to an edition of 12, more than half of which are already sold. First come, first served. We regret that once these are sold out, we will not be able to offer any more.

Choose "Local Pickup" instead of Delivery during checkout if you would like to pick up your Glass Memento at the Chrysler Museum or Perry Glass Studio.

For more than a decade, Nadine Sterk and Lonny van Ryswyck of the Dutch design studio Atelier NL have asked people from around the world to send them a small amount of sand. The designers heat the sand at very high temperatures, creating glass that reveals colors and textures unique tot eh specific geological source of each sand sample.

Atelier NL focuses attention on sand and glass as a way to make visible the intimate relationships people have with the Earth and their local environment.

To See The World In A Grain Of Sand is on view at the Chrysler Museum of Art August 12, 2022 to January 2, 2023.
