Justin Lovato
Justin Lovato (b. 1986, Northern California) is a self-taught artist whose work bridges Optical Art, Surrealism, and psychedelic influences. Inspired by natural patterns—from plant growth to shifting clouds—his art reflects a deep connection to the landscapes of the Pacific Northwest and Sierra Nevada. His bold murals, including a notable piece in Grass Valley, California, blend local history with playful, nature-driven imagery and have helped establish the town as a recognized Arts and Cultural District.
Drawing on the legacies of Bridget Riley, M.C. Escher, and psychedelic poster art, Lovato creates intricate compositions where geometric forms and color patterns suggest motion and transformation. His paintings and murals invite viewers into meditative, otherworldly spaces that celebrate the beauty of nature and the complexity of perception. Lovato’s work has been exhibited in galleries across the U.S., including the San Jose Institute of Contemporary Art, and featured in publications such as Hi-Fructose, Juxtapoz, Booooom, and GraffitiArt.
