Charles Émile Hippolyte Lecomte-Vernet
Charles Émile Hippolyte Lecomte-Vernet (1821–1900) was a French painter known for his historical and military scenes. He was born in Paris into a family of artists—his grandfather, father, and uncle were all painters. He studied art at the École des Beaux-Arts and began exhibiting his work at the Paris Salon in the mid-1800s.
Lecomte-Vernet often painted dramatic scenes from French history and battles, showing detailed costumes and action. His paintings were popular in his time, especially with people interested in national pride and storytelling through art. Today, his work is less well known but remains part of the tradition of 19th-century academic painting in France.
