Matted Print: "El Matador" by Robert Henri

Regular price $9.00 Sale price $18.00 Unit price per

During his second visit to Madrid in the summer of 1906, painter Robert Henri saw the matador Felix Asiego in a bullfight. Asiego’s dramatic gestures and extravagantly decorative costume fascinated the artist, who described them in detail in this portrait.

Spain held a special allure for Henri, and the artist traveled there seven times between 1900 and 1926—more than to any other country. He once declared that Spain was “the most interesting foreign country in which to work.” Multiple visits to the Prado and a thorough study of the country’s old masters influenced the artist’s style of realism and, by extension, helped earn him his reputation as America’s greatest portraitist.

The print comes with an acid-free off-white picture mat, with a backing board. Sealed in plastic with an identifying sticker on the back. Can be displayed as-is, or easily framed in any 11 x 14 in. frame.
